John Arczynski, Director, Operations at Index AR Solutions, presented at the 23rd annual Switching Safety & Reliability (SS&R) Conference hosted by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
Arczynski took the stage with representatives of Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison), a regulated utility providing electric and gas service in New York City and Westchester County, as well as steam service in Manhattan.
During the presentation, Con Edison explained how it is developing an augmented reality app with Index to enhance service and maintenance processes at a mission-critical pressurizing plant in New York.
With Index apps, utilities can reduce the possibility of error by providing visual confirmation to operations personnel, who are guided directly to the proper locations and equipment. Once on site, equipment can be labeled and highlighted for workers through the app, with instructions and operations rendered in 3D overlaid images.
Apps from Index are used as highly effective training and doing tools that facilitate knowledge transfer, ultimately boosting worker safety and operational efficiency.
