Sam Elkins at the Colorado Wildland Conference for Index AR Solutions.

The Index team recently traveled to the Colorado Wildland Fire Conference, an event focused on advancing wildfire resilience, mitigation strategies, and community preparedness. Hosted by Fire Adapted Colorado, the conference brings together professionals from across disciplines who are working to improve wildfire outcomes in communities and landscapes.

This year’s conference was held in Fort Collins and centered on collaboration, training, and the exchange of best practices among those tackling one of the nation’s most pressing environmental and workforce challenges.

For Samuel Elkins, Index Senior Manager for App Production, it was an opportunity to connect with leaders in wildfire management, emergency response, and environmental resilience. As workforce challenges continue to impact critical industries, including wildfire response and land management, the need for effective training and public safety solutions has never been more urgent.

Throughout the conference, the team explored how digital learning tools – like Index’s immersive mobile apps and eBooks – can support faster onboarding, skill development, and knowledge retention for field-based roles. From incident response coordination to equipment operation and safety protocols, the conversations reinforced the importance of modern training approaches that meet workers where they are.

Attendees were also particularly interested in demonstrations of Index PSP (Public Safety Portal). Index PSP is a geographic information systems (GIS)-based advanced notification system used to alert emergency management personnel of impacted critical infrastructure in advance of wildfire-caused power shutdowns. Elkins explained how utilities can use Index PSP to deliver tremendous benefits to community members.

The conference also highlighted a broader trend: industries facing complex, high-risk environments are increasingly prioritizing workforce readiness as a core component of resilience. Whether in energy, utilities, or wildfire management, the ability to train and upskill workers efficiently is essential to long-term success.

Index looks forward to continuing these conversations and supporting organizations working on the front lines of wildfire resilience.
